ART DOCENT PROGRAM

What is an Art Docent? An art docent is a volunteer who helps present and teach art to students. Art docents coordinate with their child’s teacher—or another classroom teacher—to find a time to deliver an art lesson approximately once a month or every other month. The art curriculum is pre-packaged, making the lessons easy to follow and fun to teach!

Since Woodside does not have a dedicated art teacher, our Art Docents help bring art into the classroom by teaching these pre-made lessons. All of the necessary supplies are provided. Being an Art Docent is a fun and rewarding way to be involved in your child’s classroom and make a positive impact on students! The Art Docent program would not be possible without our wonderful volunteers and the financial support provided by the PTA. You do not have to be a PTA member to volunteer, and volunteering is not required in order to be a PTA member.

Getting Started Before volunteering in the classroom, you must be approved through the Everett School District’s volunteer program. This includes a standard background check and can take approximately 2 weeks to complete, so please plan accordingly. District-approved volunteer status is good for 2 years. Working with the Teacher You will work directly with the classroom teacher to find a time that works for both of you to teach the lesson. There are no specific dates or times listed because each classroom will coordinate its schedule individually. You can reach out to the teacher by email or speak with them in person.

Art Supplies & Training All the supplies you need to teach the lessons will be provided in bins located in the storage closet in the cafeteria. Training and demonstration nights will be offered throughout the school year in the library. Once these dates are scheduled, you will be notified by email. The lesson for that month will also be posted on the website so you can review it ahead of time, plan your lesson, and become familiar with what you will be teaching.
