ART DOCENT PROGRAM

What is an Art Docent?:  

An art docent is a volunteer who helps present and teach art to students. They coordinate with their or another child’s teacher to find an hour to deliver an

art lesson every month or two. The art curriculum is pre-packaged and makes leading art lessons easy to follow.

With no formal “art teacher” at Woodside it’s up to the docents to help out and “teach” a pre-made lesson with all supplies included. Being a docent is a fun and rewarding way to create a positive impact in your child’s classroom.

The Art Docent program would not be possible without all of our wonderful volunteers and financial support given to us thru the PTA. It is not required to be a member of the PTA to volunteer, and it is not required to volunteer to be a member of the PTA.

First you must be approved thru the Everett School District to volunteer in the classroom. This is a standard background check and it does take about 2 weeks to complete, so please plan accordingly. District approved volunteer status is good for 2 years. Parents, Grandparents, Foster parents, Uncles, Aunts, and Cousin can be a volunteer.

You will need to work with the classroom teacher on when is a good time for them and you to come teach the lesson. No specific dates or times are listed as you need to coordinate that with the teacher directly, that can be done via emailing them or talking in person.

All the supplies you need to teach the lesson will be in bins in the storage closet in the cafeteria. There will be training/ demonstration nights once a month in the library hosted by Christine and Mysti. Once these are scheduled you will be made aware via email. The lesson for that month will also be posted here on the website. This allows you to plan and get familiar with what you are doing.

The goal is to have each classroom have an Art Docent. This way when we have Art Walk in April or May each classroom is represented. Please find the link to our Signup Genius to see if there is an opening for your desired class.
